Description

H2O is a simple formula where two hydrogen atoms connect to another one of oxygen, leading to the possibility of creating life. Water is life. It is the breeding ground of our origins, the circulatory system of the planet. A small change in its characteristics can imply a complete change of the balance of the Earth. Today, our major concern is the possibility of water shortage, or its excess, with both situations causing climate changes and because of this imbalance, the resulting human consequences range from large-scale migration to potential conflicts.

Whenever mankind needed water, they organized themselves in communities and civilizations next to springs, lakes or rivers where, besides the political and administrative organization, they developed techniques for the preservation and distribution of this essential element of life while its misuse led to the disappearance of some flourishing cultures.

From the human standpoint, the simplicity of water disappears. The social conscience of how the natural balance of our planet is limited, of the transience that water has had throughout history, the enormous value that this behaviour has for the future, needs to be incorporated into the reality of our classrooms.

Throughout this seminar, participants will be able to share their experiences and discuss how to approach this problem with the students.

The main objective of this course is to promote awareness about water conservation, sustainability of freshwater resources, and use of new technological opportunities around the world related to water supply, distribution and varied use. At the same time, to connect the history of water in the areas of architecture, water related systems, the myths / symbolisms / rituals of water, as well as the role of water in poetry, painting and popular culture, and how these elements have become communities’ heritage.

The participants, who are linked to formal school education, are expected to discuss the theme of water in its various perspectives and obtain competences to approach the topic with the different groups they work with.

Trainers will be in contact with the participants in order to solve any questions or doubts and provide advice on accommodation, airports, airlines etc. They will also familiarize participants with the website of the seminars (https://www.learntoteacheu.org/) which will be used to upload pedagogical material created during the course duration.
